Americans' Views of Artificial Intelligence
According to a new report from Pew Research Center, Americans are generally supportive of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in their daily lives. The report was based on a survey of 3,000 US adults and found that 66% of respondents said they believe AI will have a mostly positive impact on society.
The report also revealed that most American adults think AI could help improve decision-making in fields such as healthcare, transportation, and finance. Specifically, more than half of respondents said AI could help reduce medical errors or lead to better diagnosis rates, while around two-thirds said AI could help reduce traffic congestion and make banks safer.
At the same time, however, many Americans expressed concern about potential risks associated with AI. For example, around three-quarters of respondents were concerned about potential job losses due to automation. Moreover, most (68%) said they did not trust AI to make moral and ethical decisions.
The findings indicate that the majority of Americans are optimistic about the potential of AI, but remain wary of the potential risks associated with it. This suggests that policymakers should consider public opinion when developing an AI policy framework. Such a framework should ensure adequate safeguards are in place to protect people’s privacy and jobs, and address public concerns about potential misuse of AI.
