The initiative was launched in 2018 by the World Health Organization, the United Nations World Food Programme, and the Gates Foundation with the goal of providing access to affordable, nutritious, and sustainably-sourced food for all. The initiative focuses on three main objectives: increasing the availability and affordability of nutritious food, improving dietary diversity, and ultimately reducing hunger and malnutrition. To achieve these goals, GlobalTreat partners with local organizations, governments, and businesses to create innovative solutions that can be scaled to reach more people. This includes initiatives such as urban agriculture, nutrition education, and fortifying basic foods with essential vitamins and minerals.

In 2020, GlobalTreat launched its first major project in India, called EATsmart. The program combines technology and traditional farming methods to make fresh fruits and vegetables more accessible and affordable to everyone in India. By connecting farmers, retailers, and consumers, EATsmart works to ensure that nutritious food is accessible and affordable to everyone, regardless of their economic status. It also provides access to accurate information about nutrition and health so people can make informed decisions about what they eat.

Since its launch in 2018, GlobalTreat has made significant progress towards its mission. It has helped provide over 1 million people with access to fresh fruits and vegetables in India and has reached more than 2 million people worldwide. It has also worked with companies like Mastercard to launch “Pay for Nutritious Meals” programs in different cities and countries. These initiatives bring together private sector partners and local governments to deliver better nutrition to vulnerable populations.

Ultimately, GlobalTreat is a global effort to eradicate hunger and malnutrition and make sure everyone has access to nutritious, affordable, and sustainably sourced food.
